Along with its subsidiary, Debt Relief International, DFI operates on a not for profit basis (the US equivalent is a not-for-profit corporation), with all funds returning to donors if they are not spent on the purposes for which it has been established - to build capacity in developing countries. Since several foreign governments including the UK fund DRI, under British law it cannot be classified as a charity.
