HIPC and MDRI Advisory Service

DRI was involved in assisting countries to obtain relief on multilateral debt in the early 1990s, before the HIPC Initiative. Since then, through the HIPC Capacity-Building Programme, it has helped almost all HIPCs to negotiate their debt relief under the HIPC and MDRI Initiatives, adding to their relief by several billion dollars. For a summary of achievements in this area, see the UK Department for International Development’s view here. This help has included training and capacity-building for countries to do their own HIPC Debt Sustainability Analyses (now known as Debt Relief Analyses), and assisting countries with advocacy to achieve deeper or earlier debt relief.
